Dupion Silk

Silk Dupion from India is the most widely known silk fabric. The knot like features called slubs, are the most distinctive feature of this fabric. These slubs give silk Dupion fabric its texture. They occur when two silkworms spin cocoons close together.

This fabric is also known as raw silk or wild silk. It ranges from soft and heavily slubbed to smooth and full bodied. There are two types of silk Dupion. The first is handwoven silk Dupion, which is more textured. The second is power woven silk Dupion. At Roisin Cross Silks Dublin, we stock power woven silk Dupion fabric, which is a smooth crisp silk with plenty of body.

The beauty of silk Dupion fabric is its versatility, and it is suitable for bridal gowns, wedding dresses, coats, jackets, and evening wear.
